The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is responsible for all legal work arising from the activities of the City Colleges of Chicago, District 508, and is the point of contact for the Board of Trustees, the Chancellor and other key District Executives, the office of the Mayor, and external governmental officials and entities for all legal matters. The OGC is organizationally comprised of a Legal and a Risk Management Division.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Reporting to the Sr Paralegal & Project Manager, a Paralegal provides paraprofessional legal support to corporate attorneys and senior paralegals engaged in reviewing of contracts, Freedom of Information Act requests, and assisting with other transactional matters.  Performs related duties as required.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

·       Reviews certain standard contracts.

·       Assists Senior Paralegal with the processing and review of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.  

·       Assists with drafting and managing business entity documentation.

·       Assists corporate attorneys with various transactional matters including maintaining form agreements, research and project assistance.

·       Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports To                       Sr. Paralegal & Project Manager

Direct Supervision          None

 

QUALIFICATIONS

·       Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

·       A Paralegal Certificate from a paralegal training program accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) preferred

·       Three years of paralegal experience preferred

·       Experience drafting contracts preferred

·       Experience using legal matter management software or contract management software preferred

·       Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive)  

·       Proficient in the use of Adobe AcrobatPro

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·       Superb attention to detail

·       Excellent organizational skills

·       Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

·       Ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously

·       Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment  

$63,394 - $72,000

Offered salary will be determined by the applicant’s education, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as other factors such as internal equity.
