PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Reporting to the Associate General Counsel III, the Associate General Counsel II serves as senior legal counsel in the Office of the General Counsel.  Represents and advises Officers and administrators of the City Colleges of Chicago.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Serves as senior transactional attorney responsible for complex transactions and prodigious volume of contracts.
  • Reviews, negotiates, and reaches consensus on transactional matters, including customer, supplier, service and other agreements.
  • Identifies and analyzes legal issues, drafts key documents, presents clear recommendations to management, and ensures legal compliance with the policies of the District.
  • Reviews requests for public records received by the District in relation to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), and prepares appropriate responses to such requests.
  • Conducts legal research on local, state and federal laws, and administrative regulations and procedures.
  • Works on unusual or complex legal problems and provides creative solutions.
  • Performs other management and legal related duties as assigned.
  • May manage Associate General Counsel I attorneys and/or staff.
  • Adheres to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports To        Associate General Counsel III

Direct Supervision    None

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school required
  • Must be a member in good standing of the Illinois Bar
  • Seven years of previous transactional experience at a law firm, government or in-house setting required, preferably with a focus on contract review, drafting and negotiation.

 

  • Experience with FOIA a plus.
  • Experience working for an institution of higher education a plus.
  • Strong research, legal writing and human relations skills required
  • Must have the ability to effectively manage multiple projects with multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to revise priorities consistent with the highest needs of the District, and to proactively follow through to ensure completion of projects in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to function in a high-level position requiring utmost confidentiality, discretion, tact, and judgment
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Must be self-directed and innovative, able to assess current operations in an effort to improve the goals of the District.

Offered salary will be determined by the respective collective bargaining agreement and applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.
