DIRECTOR - STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES - TRIO

Malcolm X College is seeking a Director -Student Support Services - TRIO for the Student Services department. The mission of Malcolm X College is to provide accessible liberal arts and health-focused education that fosters personal and professional achievement. TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is a member of the Office of Student Services Division, which is committed to maintaining a campus environment that encourages and values student retention. The successful candidate will need to possess a commitment to providing academic, financial, social, and personal support services to first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides oversight and monitors the TRIO Programs to ensure compliance with the administration of the TRIO SSS grant.
  • Supervises staff of Assistant Director, Retention Advisors, Interns, Learning Center tutors, and student workers.
  • Directs the selection, training, and supervision of professionals, graduate interns, and student staff associated with the work product of the TRIO SSS Program activities and responsibilities.
  • Maintains partnership agreements with a variety of academic affairs and student affairs units, local constituents, and federal agencies that oversee the program.
  • Develops, implements, directs, coordinates and supervises the following programs: TRIO Computer labs, Supplemental Instructions (SI), Tutoring Programs, Individual Success Plans; and Summer Transitional Programs.
  • Writes annual end of year report and grant proposal every 4 years.
  • Coordinates strategic, comprehensive assessment and evaluation protocol for TRIO SSS program.
  • Designs and oversees departmental website and create promotional and marketing publications.
  • Fulfills other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Organizes and directs special events within the college such as commencement, college celebrations and student evaluation of instructors. Facilitates community group activities on campus.
  • Acts as the administrator in charge on selected evenings and Saturdays.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Required to adhere to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor's in Counseling, Student Personnel, Educational Administration or related field and three years of professional experience working with first generations, low-income, and disabled students. Master Degree Preferred
  • Knowledge of federal regulations concerning TRIO programs; ability to work effectively with students, faculty/staff and federal agencies; and effective communication skills.
  • Understanding of program assessment and retention initiatives; ability to apply student development theory; supervisory, academic advisory, budgeting and grant management experience; and basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to work well with employees at all levels of the organization, as well as with students and other customers. Must be able to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Must be self-directed and innovative, able to assess current operations in an effort to improve the future goals of the District. Must be able to meet Deadlines in timely manner.

Salary Range: $91,176 - $100,293.60

Offered salary will be determined by the respective collective bargaining agreement and applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.
