PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the TRIO SSS Peer Mentor (Temp PT) advises, guides, and serves as a role model for other TRIO SSS students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

·       Explains CCC system to project participants; helps students become aware of College resources; advises and refers students to appropriate College resources.

·       Assists with coordination of programming including, academic workshops and TRIO SSS Student Orientation.

·       Participate in program recruitment activities, such as, informational sessions and classroom visits.

·       Provides information on study techniques, organizational skills and learning aides to support the student’s academic pursuits

·       Meets with assigned mentee(s) to advise twice per month.

·       Assists with setting goals and works toward accomplishing each.

·       Advocates for mentee as necessary. 

·       Attends mentor training sessions as required.

·       Records observations and submits reports to assigned supervisor as required.

·       Creates marketing and social media materials.

·       Answers student inquiries via email, phone, and Zoom.

·       Creates student files and assists with documentation of services.

·       Handles confidential student information in adherence with FERPA guidelines.

·       Adheres to the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Service Excellence Standards.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports To                       Assigned Supervisor

Direct Supervision          None

QUALIFICATIONS

·       Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program and maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.  Candidates who have either completed an Associate’s degree or have earned a minimum of 60 credit hours, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.0, and who intend to transfer to a 4-year institution, will also be considered. Completion of a high school diploma or high school equivalency certificate required. 

·       Knowledge of City Colleges of Chicago, student activities, college resources and student services; knowledge of specific major or program

·       Knowledge of TRIO Student Support Services

·       Good interpersonal skills with a positive attitude and ease in relating to people from a variety of educational, cultural and social backgrounds. 

·       Demonstrated good study techniques and skills.

·       Good verbal communication skills.

·       Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment.

·       Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
