TRANSITION SPECIALIST
OLIVE-HARVEY COLLEGE
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
Olive-Harvey College is looking for a Transition Specialist in our Adult Education Department. Reporting to an assigned administrator, the Transition Specialist guides Adult Education, ESL, GED, Continuing Education, or Career and Technical Education (CTE) students in developing educational and career pathway plans to help them make a successful transition to the next level of education or a career. This position also serves as a key liaison between students and various college departments to facilitate smooth coordination and access to resources within the colleges transition and bridge programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Recruits students from upper levels of Adult Education (ESL, GED, and Spanish GED), Continuing Education, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs for participation in transition and bridge programs by coordinating outreach efforts and information sessions and responding to student inquiries.
- Works with students in specialized cohorts/transition/bridge programs by helping them understand and successfully navigate the process of moving to credit or vocational programs.
- Conducts follow-up with students in specialized cohorts, bridge and transition programs to ensure that they can identify and access any necessary support services, such as tutoring, advising, financial aid, etc.
- Organizes meetings and prepares written information for relevant faculty to keep them informed of transition initiatives so they can share relevant information with students.
- Develops mechanisms to track student participation and performance in cohorts/transition/ bridge programs to assess program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
- Serves as a liaison between the Adult Education, Continuing Education, or CTE programs and college credit and career programs, as well as student services offices such as Admissions and Advising, Student Success and Leadership Institute, Tutoring, Financial Aid, to facilitate a smooth student transition process.
- Serves as a liaison with community organizations participating in bridge partnerships and specialized cohort-based programs with the College. Travels to various locations within an assigned territory to establish partnerships.
- Adheres to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.
- Performs related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Adult Education, or related degree, supplemented by one to two years of related experience in career counseling or social service working with educationally disadvantaged adults or English Language Learners on career and educational pathways; OR a Bachelors degree in a related field with four to six years of related work experience. Masters degree in a related field preferred.
- Knowledge of student recruitment and retention issues.
- Knowledge of educational issues pertaining to English Language Learners and first-generation college students.
- Experience in planning and coordinating projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to develop and present ideas in a concise and engaging manner (to individuals and groups).
- Ability to work within a culturally diverse work environment
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office 365 (Work, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)

Annual Salary: $69,545/ annual
