Malcolm X College is currently seeking a qualified full-time Training Specialist for our Medical Assistant department.

Malcolm X College has partnered with Cook County Health‘s Provident Hospital to expand access to Medical Assistant education to Chicago’s Bronzeville community. The Medical Assistant (MA) Program is delivered across multiple locations, including Provident Hospital, Malcolm X College, and Malcolm X College West Campus. Positions within the program report directly to the administration at Malcolm X College.

The Medical Assistant (MA) Program prepares students for employment as Certified Medical Assistants (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistants (RMA) in a variety of healthcare settings, including clinics, physician offices, hospitals, home health agencies, and long-term care facilities. The program is approved by the Medical Education Review Board (MAERB), and successful completion of the program qualifies graduates to sit for national certification examinations leading to CMA or RMA credentials.

The School of Health Sciences and Career Programs at Malcolm X College (MXC) is currently seeking full-time Training Specialists for its Medical Assistant (MA) Program. A Medical Assistant (MA) Training Specialist is responsible for planning and delivering classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction that prepares students for careers as Medical Assistants. This position provides students with the foundational knowledge, clinical skills, and professional competencies needed to deliver quality patient care and succeed in a healthcare environment. The Training Specialist also prepares students for national certification examinations and workforce entry as Medical Assistants. Performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

·       Delivers instruction through classroom lectures, laboratory demonstrations, skills practice, and supervised clinical sessions at designated health care facilities, including hospitals, nursing homes, and long-term care facilities.

·       Develops and maintains course syllabus and instructional materials to support student learning outcomes (SLOs) in accordance with Medical Education Review Board (MAERB) guidelines.

·       Provides students with course syllabus, including course outline, grading standards, attendance policies, and classroom expectations.

·       Leads in Medical Assistant (MA) curriculum review, development, and updates.

·       Prepares lesson plans and facilitate student learning using appropriate instructional methods to develop medical assisting knowledge and skills.

·       Maintains student attendance and grading records in compliance with the City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) policies and procedures.

·       Develops examinations, assignments, and other assessment tools to evaluate student learning and competency.

·       Evaluates student progress and provides students with timely and constructive feedback.

·       Completes student evaluations and ensures timely and accurate submission of grades and other instructional documentation.

·       Maintains a purposeful, organized, safe, and healthy laboratory and classroom environment.

·       Collaborates with the Program Director and Associate Dean to address instructional, operational, and student-related issues.

·       Serves as an accessible mentor and faculty advisor to Medical Assistant (MA) Program students.

·       Participates in departmental meetings, assessment activities, special projects, and other program-related initiatives.

·       Contributes to departmental and institutional committees.

·       Creates an effective learning environment that fosters students' intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

·       Helps students reach their academic, personal, and career goals and fosters a safe environment that respects the diversity of individuals and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student's ability to learn.

·       Participates in accreditation and compliance activities, including meetings with the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Professions (CAAHEP) evaluators during unannounced monitoring visits and the provides required documentation in accordance with CAAHEP guidelines.

·       Adheres to City Colleges of Chicago board rules, policies, procedures, and code of ethics.

QUALIFICATIONS

·       Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Medical Assisting or other healthcare related field required. Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.

·       Current and valid Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential required.

·       Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) healthcare provider Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.

·       Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Medical Assistant in at least one of the following areas:

o   Teaching theory in the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Professions (CAAHEP)-approved medical assistant training program; or

o   Providing medical assistant care, including personal care and activities of daily living, to older adults or chronically ill adults.

·       Must be able to complete a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Professions (CAAHEP)-approved workshop refresher course every five years.

·       Experience with a diverse student population preferred, with a commitment to the open access mission of the community college.

·       Knowledge of medical assisting principles, clinical procedures, and healthcare industry standards.

·       Knowledge of Brightspace or similar Learning Management System preferred.

·       Demonstrated excellence in teaching in classroom, laboratory, and clinical learning environments, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and empower students to achieve academic and professional success.

·       Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external partners.

·       Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders.

·       Commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment that supports students from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

·       Ability to work at and travel between multiple instructional locations and campuses during a semester as assigned, including but not limited to: MXC main campus, MXC West Side Campus, MXC South Campus, and MXC Provident Hospital Campus.

·       Ability and willingness to teach late afternoon, evening, weekend, and summer courses as needed.

·       Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)

 Salary Range: $58,000 - $65,000

Offered salary will be determined by the respective collective bargaining agreement and applicant's education.
