TRAINING SPECIALIST- DIESEL TECHNOLOGY
OLIVE-HARVEY COLLEGE 

Olive-Harvey College is currently seeking a skilled and motivated Training Specialist for the Diesel Technology program. As a diesel faculty member, you will conduct activities and effectively evaluate the progress and performance of students, which directly support instruction and industry standards as well as the academic goals of the institution. 

Our newly designed lab presents an opportunity for the student to train in all facets in the trouble shooting and repair of over the road diesel trucks as well as diesel engines. If this position is the right fit for you, we encourage you to apply. 

Candidates will play a key role in giving guidance to students as they complete lab assignments demonstrating their skills in routine maintenance, troubleshooting and problem solving mechanical issues of heavy duty trucks and engines. An ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in, electrical and electronics, air and hydraulic brakes, transmissions, suspension and engine repair of over the road diesel trucks, as well as testing equipment and diagnostics. 

 GENERAL DUTIES:

    • Demonstrate proper safety measures for basic hand machine tools
    • See that equipment and/or labs are properly maintained where appropriate
    • Provide instruction in Diesel/Auto  maintenance technology to students in compliance with ASE/NATEF  regulatory body requirements
    • Establish and maintain academic and attendance records for student file
    • Develop and maintain positive relationships with class participants.& Staff.
    • Maintain a neat and orderly classroom or lab
    • Taking attendance at each class, ensuring that all participants are registered and properly signed in
  • Prepare course syllabi, lesson plans and other instructional teaching aids to prepare assist in student success.
  • Assists in the scheduling of student training and testing preparations. Additionally, the training specialist will provide instructor training, assessments, observations and retraining. 
  • Provides reports, evaluations and documentation of training materials.
  • Assist with schedules and training workshops. Conducts orientations for potential students.
  • Maintains student performance data.
  • Provides monthly comparative analysis on student performance. 
  • Ensure compliance for NATEF certification.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Candidate must be available to work with agreed upon schedules with Administration
  • Associates Degree or a combination of some education, and Diesel/Auto industry experience.
  • Candidate must have all appropriate ASE certifications; Candidates with current equivalent industry experience, appropriate certifications and a strong classroom effectiveness assessment may also be considered by College Administration and the Department Chair. Certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) preferred. 
  • Three (3) years minimum medium/heavy duty truck and engine service experience or teaching 3 years for Diesel technology..
  • Exceptional communication skills.  
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of Automotive/Diesel, electrical and electronics, air and hydraulic brakes, transmissions, steering and suspension, engine repair of over the road diesel trucks, as well as testing equipment and diagnostics.

The qualifications for the role  are:

  • Engine Rebuilding, Basic Auto Electricity, Brakes, Basic Transmission, Engine Performance
  •  ASE Certifications
  •  NCS Certificates:
  • Precision Measuring Instruments (Dial Calipers, Micrometers, Dial Indicators)
  • Professional Development – Numerous certificates on current industry teaching and service improvements.

      Rate: $58, 000-$65,000 annual
