Student Translator - Adult Education

STUDENT TRANSLATOR - ADULT EDUCATION

OLIVE-HARVEY COLLEGE

Olive-Harvey College is seeking a Student Translator to work within our Adult Education department. 
 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the Student Translator converts one language to another for students, faculty and staff in order for concepts and ideas to be exchanged between languages and cultures.
   
• Translation may be written or verbal.
   
• May serve as a simultaneous interpreter or consecutive interpreter.
   
• Conveys the exact message as opposed to summarizing the information in a way that is subjective.
   
• Maintains confidentiality in all matters as it relates to information being interpreted.
   
• Accurately translates to the English language.
   
• Attends training sessions as required.
   

• Adheres to the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Service Excellence Standards.

   

   

Minimum Qualifications:

- High School Diploma required or actively pursuing a GED at the City Colleges of Chicago.
- Fluency in the language being translated.
- Ability to demonstrate accuracy in interpretation skills.
- Excellent oral communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills with a positive attitude and demonstrably self-motivated.
- Ability to work with diverse populations from various economic backgrounds and age groups.

Eligibility Requirements:
- Applicants must be 16 years or older, have work permit consent, and eligible to work in the United States
- Applicants must be actively attending one of the City Colleges of Chicago
- Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 semester hours pre-credit or credit classes
- Applicants must be pursuing an approved educational credential, degree, or certificate
- Applicants must have and maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA (waived for first semester new students)
- Applicants must be in “good standing” – no City Colleges of Chicago academic restrictions
- Applicants must not be current Full or Part-time employees of the City Colleges of Chicago
- All positions are “employment at-will”

Salary: $17.05/hour

The rate paid is in accordance with City Colleges approved salary scale.
