Dawson Technical Institute (DTI) of Kennedy-King College (DTI) is an academic job training center for Construction Technology careers established in 1968. Named after U.S. Congressman William L. Kennedy-King College is seeking a part-time Vocational Lecturer- Construction Masonry. Reporting to the Dean of Dawson Technical Institute (DTI), the Vocational Lecturer- Construction Masonry is responsible for hands-on masonry instruction in classroom and lab environments. The instructor will prepare instructional materials, maintaining equipment, and tools, conducting safety demonstrations, grading student assignments, and providing one-on-one academic support.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach foundational and advanced masonry techniques such as brick/block laying, concrete mixing, tuckpointing, and blueprint reading
- Deliver engaging and safety-focused instruction
- Set up lab materials and masonry workstations for hands-on learning
- Designing brick and block wall build-outs as capstone projects
- Participating in live-build community service projects
- Mentoring students for union entry or contractor placements
- Developing scaffold safety and layout workshops
- Shaping the growth of the masonry program as part of DTI’s expanding trades curriculum
- Motivate and support students with varying skill levels and learning styles
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficiency in bricklaying, stone setting, tuckpointing, blockwork, and concrete finishing
- Strong understanding of construction safety standards and OSHA protocols
- Experience in residential and commercial masonry
- Ability to read blueprints and construction drawings
- Skilled in scaffold setup and masonry layout
- Excellent communication, instruction, and mentoring abilities
- NCCER Certified Craft Instructor in Masonry (or willingness to obtain certification)
- Ability to occasionally chaperone field trips and employer engagements
The compensation for this position is $52/hour.
