One Summer Chicago - STEAMbassadors Program
TRUMAN COLLEGE

City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), the largest community college system in Illinois, is made up of seven colleges and five satellite sites, providing more than 70,000 students each year access to a quality, affordable education.

One Summer Chicago is an initiative that provides youth with employment and enrichment opportunities during the summer months. One Summer Chicago offers summer employment to youth between the ages of 14 and 24. Most programs are between 20 and 25 hours per week.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

The STEAMbassadors program is specialized training for people 18-24 interested in working in informal learning spaces (i.e. parks and libraries) and on-line with youth around STEAM activities. Participants will be trained in STEAM knowledge and skills, leadership and mentoring, and health and wellness interventions, so they can serve as STEAMbassadors within spaces in communities throughout Chicago.

All positions are for 20 hours a week.

KEY COMPETENCIES

Candidates must be available and willing to commit to the intensive training and additional site visits in the time period from mid-May through the beginning go August. Upon successful completion of training, candidates are prioritized for future work and learning opportunities with partners and partner sites across the city.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Completes necessary training provided by Truman and/or its partner organizations
• Facilitates virtual or in-person camps as needed for designated sites
• Continues with on-going professional development as needed or provided by Truman or and/or its partner organizations.
• This position may require you to work in person and/or a hybrid schedule.
• Supports peers and other staff as needed with device and other technology questions if working as a Tech Champion.   
• Provides support on various STEAMbassador or Innovation One projects and assignments as needed.
• Adheres to the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Services Excellence Standards.
