LABORATORY COORDINATOR – RESPIRATORY THERAPY
MALCOLM X COLLEGE 

Malcolm X College, is looking for a Laboratory Coordinator to join the Respiratory Therapy team. This position will be responsible for enhancing student knowledge and skills for the Respiratory Therapy program. Ensures Proper inventory of laboratory supplies and maintenance of equipment and assists faculty in fulfilling academic and program needs.

The mission statement of the Respiratory Care Program is in concert with the mission statement of Malcolm X College. We will graduate competent Respiratory Care Practitioners, who will provide compassionate high-quality respiratory care and patient education.

Malcolm X College is one of seven City Colleges of Chicago CCC. The College is fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, HLC. The Program is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care, CoARC. We are proud to maintain these highly respected standards and continuously strive to improve the program through assessment of student learning and ongoing evaluation of program outcomes and our stakeholders and partners’ feedback. Graduates of the Respiratory Care Program will earn an Applied Associate in Science degree in Respiratory Care and are then eligible to take the national board examinations in respiratory care from the National Board for Respiratory Care, NBRC.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Coordinates lab environment and activities to supplement subject lessons and techniques, and provides direction in the facilitation and enhancement of students’ laboratory experiences.  Ensures that students adhere to safety policies.
  • Demonstrates a variety of Health Science techniques, patient care skills, laboratory procedures, and provides evaluation of students’ performance.
  • Organizes and checks laboratory equipment and supply items to ensure proper maintenance, function, and inventory levels.  Reports equipment failure to supervisor and prepares requisition slips as needed.
  • Secures, sets-up, and maintains various instructional resources for classroom and laboratory use.
  • Advises current and prospective students about the Health Science program.  Provides additional laboratory scheduling and assists students during open lab hours for review or practice of laboratory related aspects
  • Maintains student records and informs instructor of students’ exam and laboratory grades for evaluative and remedial purposes.
  • Participates in all program and departmental meetings.
  • Assists with group tours, recruitment efforts, and prospective student interviews as necessary.
  • Provides input for annual funding requests from state and/or federal agencies.. 
  • Adheres to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
     

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from an accredited Health Respiratory program; Bachelor’s Degree preferred in a Scientific area of study.
  • Must have and maintain a current certification as an Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience in related Health Science field.
  • Completion of continuing education units, for license renewal, as needed.
