INTERNATIONAL STUDENT LIAISON

Malcolm X College is seeking an International Student Liaison. Enrollment Management serves current and prospective students and their families by integrating services throughout the student cycle, from recruitment through commencement and thereby enhancing each student’s experience at CCC.

The mission of the Admissions Office is to assist all prospective students interested in attending one of the City Colleges of Chicago toward their acceptance to the college. We will provide current information about academic programs and degrees along with the admission requirements for our Health Science programs.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Enrollment Management, the International Student Liaison – PT works with all international students interested in enrolling at a CCC college to ensure compliance with CCC’s admissions requirements and the policies of the Departments of Homeland Security and State Regulations; oversees the submission of required documents for the issuance of the required I-20 form (certificate of eligibility for non-immigrant student status); and maintains a database to monitor students status and continued compliance. Performs related duties as required.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Serves as a college’s Designated School Official (DSO), meeting with prospective students to explain admission requirements, assist with the International Student Application, and inform them of documents required for the issuance of an I-20 form.
  • Reviews submitted applications and required documents from prospective international students applying from their home country, as transfer students, or as new students requiring a change of visa status to ensure completeness. Follows up with students as needed to ensure timely submission of required documents.
  • Forwards documents to Enrollment team for final review and approval.
  • Enters and maintains data into the federal SEVIS database (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) to create a record of enrolled international students, update their status, and obtain their I-20 form and ID number.
  • Issues the I-20 form to new international students accepted into the college’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program.
  • Schedules required meetings with international students each semester to review registration status, enrollment in required credit hours, continued attendance, and other compliance issues. Updates PeopleSoft CampusSolutions (CS9) with data pertinent to international students.
  • Meets with international students to respond to inquiries regarding changes to their academic program and course hours, maintaining student status, and required annual signature for travel.
  • Monitors academic status and progress of international students to ensure compliance with CCC’s requirements and Homeland Security policies regarding international students, working in coordination with Enrollment team.
  • Updates SEVIS records of international students to reflect changes including change of academic program, major or degree field; anticipated graduation date; completion; and termination of students failing to maintain their F-1 status.
  • Works with Enrollment team to provide general support services and assistance to international students to help meet their educational needs and immigration requirements for maintaining F-1 visa status.
  • Proactively engages with prospective and current international students as needed, in collaboration with the Enrollment team.
  • Attends meeting and remains current on CCC’s and the federal government’s policies regarding international students.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university
  • One year of experience in a higher education institution, preferably in a student services environment
  • Knowledge of CCC policies relating to International Students admission requirements
  • Knowledge of or experience with SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) database preferred
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Good organizational and recordkeeping skills
  • Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in handling sensitive situations while maintaining confidentiality
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Salary Range: $17 - $18 per hour

Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as other factors such as internal equity.
