PART-TIME INSTRUCTOR - ALTERNATIVE HIGH SCHOOL
OLIIVE-HARVEY MIDDLE COLLEGE
Olive-Harvey Middle College is an Alternative High School (AHS) within the Youth Connection Charter School Network, open to eligible youth between 17 to 21 years old. OMC aspires to empower students to rise above barriers in order to become successful college and career ready individuals. Students learn to advocate for themselves and overcome obstacles, working towards completing their high school diploma and applying their knowledge and learned skills to transition to higher education and fulfilling professions.
The PT instructor will be responsible for implementing instructional plans for the purpose of improving students’ proficiency in all core subjects. Courses may be pre-credit, high school, intensive assistance, or college preparatory.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Evaluates students’ admissions tests to determine educational enhancement needs. Grades written assignments with focus on the mechanics of utilizing math skills or writing techniques.
2. Prepares lesson plans and lesson materials for distribution and use in practical application.
3. Teaches students to utilize math skills, how to accurately compute and logically solve problems; teaches critical thinking skills, reading comprehension techniques and different reading levels; or teaches students writing skills and techniques to increase vocabulary.
4. Tests and grades students’ skills, keeps records of student assessments and distributes mid-term and final grades.
5. Registers new and returning students; advises students on courses and in selection of college credit courses.
6. Attends class sessions to ensure a sense of relationship between the discipline and written assignments.
7. Tutors students with coursework; advises students on life skills.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in English, Education, Math or Liberal Arts degree in the field in which assigned to teach, supplemented by one to two years of related experience and/or training.
