HEAD COACH – MEN’S BASKETBALL (PART- TIME)
OLIVE-HARVEY COLLEGE

Olive-Harvey College is seeking an experienced Head Coach to help lead the Panthers to victory!! The Head Coach position will give you the opportunity to provide leadership in the development and evaluation of the overall team and individual student-athletes. You will also be able to provide dynamic, strategic and visionary leadership designed to enhance student success through focus on an “Academics-first Agenda.”

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Recruits student-athletes for participation in intercollegiate athletics. Cooperates with the academic advisers to support the academic progress of the student-athlete.

·         Implements the District wide Athletic Department strategy focused on an “Academics-first Agenda” designed to increase student-athlete success and assists the campus Athletic Director in monitoring student athlete academic progress. Ensures that athletes reach their academic goals by monitoring class attendance and ensuring that they receive academic support as necessary.

·         Assists players in reaching highest athletic potential possible through athletic training and leadership skills. Recruits, counsels and advises students with respect to athletic performance and other personal development issues. Prepares the student athletes for competition through planning and conducting well organized practices and contests.

·         Assists in assuring compliance with National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) rules and regulations for the specific sport. Closely monitors academic, conduct and physical requirements for each student athlete. In collaboration with the campus Athletic Director, completes and maintains records and statistics for accurate, mandatory reporting to the NJCAA and regional regulatory agencies.

·         Prepares and manages the budget for baseball in collaboration with the campus level Athletic Director.

·         Develops and builds relationships with four-year institutions in collaboration with the District Office of Intercollegiate Athletics and campus level Athletic Director.

·         Assists in the development and implementation of meaningful professional development activities designed to enhance the skills of all Athletic Department personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Completion of a Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Physical Education or a related field, supplemented by 4-6 years of coaching and/or collegiate/professional playing experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

·         Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within basketball.

·         Coaching Certification Preferred.

·         First Aid Certification Preferred.

·         Current CPR/AED Certification by the American Heart Association or the Red Cross Required.

·         Excellent interpersonal, organizational, planning and leadership skills required.

·         Must be able to serve as a positive role model for young adults.

·         Must be familiar with NJCAA rules and regulations.

OTHER INFORMATION:

Coaches are hired on a season by season basis. A reasonable effort is made to assure future coaching assignments to those coaches who have had a history of successful academic and athletic team performances at City Colleges of Chicago. All coaching assignments are conditioned on sufficient team membership. Once a season starts, the Head Coach is expected to complete the season.

Stipend for the Athletic Season: $13,000
Additional Recruiting Stipend: $2,000
