FULL TIME TENURE TRACK FACULTY – HUMANITIES/FINE ARTS
KENNEDY-KING COLLEGE
Kennedy-King College is currently seeking a candidate for a full-time tenure-track teaching position in the Humanities Department. If you have passion for teaching and learning and the arts, and you are committed to the community college mission, consider joining our team. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing and using effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverse needs and engage the students in active skill-building related to analysis, evaluation, argumentation, appreciation, and performance, along with critical reading and writing, specifically in disciplines of the Humanities and Fine Arts. We are particularly in search of candidates with academic backgrounds in one or more of the following areas: Film, Black Diaspora Studies (or other Race/Ethnicity studies), Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Popular Culture, Media, and/or Philosophy.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design courses to meet learning outcomes and promote students’ active participation in their own learning.
- Create an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and growth.
- Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and the attainment of the student learning outcomes for the course.
- Help students reach their academic, personal and career goals and foster a safe environment that respects the diversity of people and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn.
- Contribute to and provide leadership for the department in academic and professional communities and promote collaboration and teamwork among members of these communities.
- Participate in the planning and execution of performance related events and co-curricular activities
QUALIFICATIONS:
- M.A. Humanities Classics or Comparative Religions or Foreign Language Literature – OR – Master’s degree with 18 graduate credit hours in one or several related humanities disciplines. Vice Presidents may also consider the following related degrees to credential an individual for a content-related course: Master’s in Art History, Film Studies, Foreign Languages, English Literature, Theater, Philosophy, Music, Musicology, Medieval Studies, Interdisciplinary Humanities.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and Brightspace, preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with diverse group of staff and students required.
- Experience with a diverse, multilingual student population is desired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the college.
