FULL-TIME FACULTY - THEATER

Harold Washington College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, is seeking a candidate for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position teaching theater within the English, Speech, Theater and Journalism department. As an open-access institution, Harold Washington College is a dynamic, vertical campus located in the city’s theatre district (the Loop) with students attending from all over Chicago and the world.
· Working in an urban environment with diverse learners.
· Applying inclusive active learning teaching strategies within the classroom.
· Teaching college-level theater courses; and
· Working in design/technical aspects of theater.
· Teach a variety of theater courses each semester, primarily face-to-face, and with an emphasis on the Intro to Theatre and Stagecraft courses.
· Contribute to the college’s theater program as the technical director.
· Serve as a designer for Loop Players, the college’s 58-year-old theatre company.
· Promote an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps students to solve problems using discipline-specific thinking strategies.
· Employ various summative and formative assessments to ensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and the attainment of the student learning outcomes for the course.
· Mentor students to help them reach their academic, personal and career goals.
· Foster a safe environment that respects the diversity of people and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn; and
· Promote awareness and involvement in the college’s theatre program both on and off campus.
· PhD in Theatre or Performance Studies, or
· Masters or MFA in Theater Arts or Drama
· Excellent oral and written communications skills; ability to communicate with a diverse, multilingual group of students and staff required.
