FULL TIME TENURE TRACK FACULTY – PHYSICS (PHYSICAL SCIENCES)

Harold Washington College is seeking a candidate for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position teaching Engineering Physics and related courses. This position will support the Department’s commitments to the City Colleges of Chicago School of Engineering. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Teach the spectrum of lecture and laboratory-based physics courses to meet learning outcomes and promote students’ active participation in their own learning.
• Promote an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps students solve problems using discipline-specific thinking strategies.
• Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and the attainment of the student learning outcomes for the course.
• Help students reach their academic, personal, and career goals; and foster a safe environment that respects the diversity of people and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn.

• Contribute to and provide leadership for the department, particularly regarding the City Colleges of Chicago School of Engineering, and in academic and professional communities; and promote collaboration and teamwork among members of these communities.

   

   

  QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's or PhD in either a Physics-based discipline or Engineering Physics is required.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate with a diverse group of staff and students are required.
• Experience with a diverse, multilingual student population and a commitment to the open access mission of a community college is preferred.
• Experience in teaching introductory engineering concepts, including programming, coding, and data science is valued.
• Knowledge of a learning management system (such as Brightspace) is valued.

The salary range for this position is $58,000 - $65,000. Offered salary will be determined by the respective collective bargaining agreement and applicant's education.
