Malcolm X College is seeking a Full Time Faculty for the Medical Assistant Department.
City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), the largest community college system in Illinois, is made up of seven colleges and five satellite sites, providing more than 65,000 students each year access to a quality, affordable education. To this end, the student will not only be evaluated on their knowledge but on specific skills as well.
Reporting to an assigned Academic Dean, the Full-time Faculty position conducts formal classes and meets all lab objectives, when applicable, for assigned courses. Full-time faculty teach and evaluate students, prepare and revise course syllabi and other educational materials. Lastly, Full-time faculty contribute to the overall operation of the College, support the mission of the institute, and employ the philosophical commitment of the community college environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Prepares syllabi that include student learning objectives and student learning outcomes.
- Teaches on-campus classes in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and guidelines of the college.
- Demonstrates excellence in teaching and a commitment to integrating new technologies in the learning process.
- Demonstrates the ability to engage, inspire, motivate and empower students to succeed.
- Develops reciprocity and cooperation among students. Encourages active learning.
- Employs a variety of teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, demonstrations, projects, and field trips in efforts to meet students’ varying learning needs, abilities, and interests and to optimize student outcomes.
- Works individually with students who may need specific assistance in reaching their academic, personal and career goals. Models respect for all students and conveys confidence in every student’s ability to learn.
- Provides regular and useful feedback to students in an objective, consistent, and timely manner; evaluates and documents student performance using established methods and criteria and records course grades promptly.
- Develops and designs an assessment program that ensures students’ application and use of concepts, techniques, and innovations learned both in the classroom and through external course work.
- Stays abreast of innovations and current trends in one’s specific academic discipline as they pertain to pedagogy and technology.
- Participates in professional development activities aimed at enhancing the Talents of Teaching.
- Attends regularly scheduled departmental meetings and contributes to campus and District committees.
- Adheres to CCC’s student-centered philosophy. Fosters student involvement and commitment.
- The ability to work in a culturally diverse work environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft office applications.
QUALIFICATIONS
- M.D. or Registered Medical Assistant through American Medical Technologist (AMT) or Certified Medical Assistant through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) must have three years of medical assisting experience or BSN with three years of current ambulatory experience.
- Knowledge of Brightspace Learning Management System, preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with diverse group of staff and students required
- Experience with a diverse, multi-lingual student population is desired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the community college.
- Scholarship work, publications, committee work, and other relevant work is highly considered.
- Two to three years of teaching experience at the college level preferred.
This position is represented by the Local 1600 professional union.
Chicago residency is required for all full-time employees within 6 months of hire.
