FULL TIME FACULTY (TENURE TRACK) - MATHEMATICS

Richard J. Daley College is located on the southwest side of Chicago, Daley College offers accessible and affordable opportunities for academic advancement, career development, and personal enrichment. The Mathematics Department of Richard J. Daley College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, seeks an innovative, collaborative, technologically astute tenure-track instructor to teach general mathematics courses beginning Fall 2025.

Please note: This position may require fully teaching in-person, as hybrid schedules are not guaranteed. The starting salary for this role ranges from $58,000 to $65,000 annually. This is a tenure-track position.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

·       Teaches full range of math courses (developmental through linear algebra). 

·       Works with college and department on innovative approaches to engage students to succeed in math courses and transfer to four-year colleges/universities. 

·       Creates an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps students to problem solve using discipline-specific thinking strategies. 

·       Participates in curriculum, assessment, and program planning. Employs a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and the attainment of student learning outcomes for the course(s). 

·       Helps students reach their academic, personal, and career goals and cultivates a safe environment that respects the diversity of individuals and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn. 

·       Maintains office hours, advises students, and participates in departmental and institutional committees, meetings, and other activities. 

·       Adheres to City Colleges of Chicago board rules, policies, procedures, and code of ethics.  

QUALIFICATIONS 

·       Master's Degree in Mathematics OR Master’s Degree in a related field with at least 18 hours of mathematics at the graduate level required. 

·       Minimum one year of college level teaching experience required. Community college teaching experience preferred. 

·       Academic preparation for and successful experience in designing and teaching curricula responsive to the needs and interests of historically underrepresented students, including first-generation college students. 

·       Demonstrated ability to successfully teach mathematics at the college level.  

·       Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the community college philosophy and its principles.  

·       Commitment to professional growth as it relates to student success and current issues involving math education at a community college.

·       Evidence of and commitment to leading and working as part of a team both inside and outside of the mathematics department.  

·       Demonstrated interest in professional development focused on teaching, learning, and assessment.  

·       Knowledge of a learning management system and mathematical software.  

·       Experience with diverse, multi-lingual student population desired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the community college.  

·       Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with diverse students and staff.
