PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Reporting to the Deputy Provost, the Exec Director-Academic Affairs provides managerial direction and leadership in the key areas of academic quality that include a. maintaining institutional and specialized accreditation; b. ensuring effective coordination of compliance and assessment activities across the District; and c. managing CCCs Tenure Assistance Program (TAP); d. oversight of the system bookstore; and e. supervision of faculty processes and compliance. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Oversees the coordination and expansion of the Districts Academic Leader professional development efforts, ensuring comprehensive onboarding of new leaders and opportunities for continued growth of all leaders. 
  • Monitors the tenure process to ensure consistent execution and administration across colleges in alignment with academic policy, collective bargaining agreements, and state statutes. 

Accreditation-Academic

  • Provides leadership to district and college administration in the development, production, delivery and continuing evaluation of the accreditation model.
  • Serves as a consultant, resource and facilitator to district and college personnel on matters relating to assessment and accreditation, providing oversight in the planning and implementation of assessment, evaluation and accreditation efforts. 
  • Assists colleges with their efforts to maintain accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and specialized program accreditations and licensing agencies by serving as a consultative resource to administrators, faculty, and staff. 
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for the colleges regarding various accrediting agency standards, federal and regulatory standards and licensures.
  • Oversees the work of District staff working with colleges to coordinate the development and implementation of action plans and timelines to address issues of non-compliance and related concerns as a result of accreditation reviews. 
  • Facilitates/leads regular compliance meetings to clarify expectations and confirm timely submission of deliverables.
  • Manages the archive of accreditation documents and maintains district-wide accreditation databases. 

Assessment 

  • Provides guidance and expertise in the use of assessment in institutional effectiveness and planning and fulfilling compliance expectations of external accrediting and governing bodies. 
  • Provides consultation to college faculty and administrators in documenting the collection, analysis and use of assessment and evaluative data to strengthen and improve curriculum and teaching strategies.
  • Collaborates with District and college administrators on the development of evaluation and assessment related policies and practices.
  • Coordinates and leads district assessment committees as needed.
  • Ensures that assessment processes for academic programs are aligned with accreditation requirements and institutional goals.
  • Provides professional development and training for stakeholders as it relates to assessment and evaluation efforts.

New Faculty and Academic Leader Development 

  • Works with colleges to identify new tenure track faculty each semester and ensures availability of Tenure Assistance Program (TAP) sessions (TOS and SSS) based on faculty progression through the process.
  • Chairs monthly meetings with Tenure Assistance Program (TAP) leaders and Deans to review process implementation, address challenges, and to discuss opportunities for improvement of the faculty hiring and tenure processes.
  • Coordinates logistics for first-semester faculty orientation and other TAP curriculum components.
  • Ensures consistency of standards used in faculty evaluation, contract renewal and tenure decisions. Provides training and norming of administrators and faculty involved in the tenure process. 
  • Oversees the management of the District's faculty development events
  • Designs and may deliver targeted professional development for academic leaders at monthly meetings addressing current challenges.
  • Informs and organizes summer professional development for new academic leaders.
  • Works with staff to assess needs and identify areas for improvement.

Academic Process and Compliance

  • Manages the District Director-Academic Process, ensuring timely preparation of materials and adherence to deadlines.
  • Oversees the management of the bookstore.
  • Leads process improvement initiatives, including automation of key functions such as overload approval, sabbatical eligibility, and reinstatement.
  • Verifies the accuracy of board reports related to sabbatical compliance, tenure renewal and faculty promotion.
  • Provides informed insights on processes such as overload, lane advancement, and rotation points.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Master's degree from an accredited college or university. 
  • Seven years of experience in a higher education institution with experience in teaching and/or academic administration.
  • Experience in the areas of student learning assessment and the design of outcome-based curriculum preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the accreditation and compliance landscape, various accrediting agency standards, federal and regulatory standards and licensure requirements within higher education.
  • Prior experience managing and/or preparing the regional accreditation process at a public college or university (HLC preferred), or experience overseeing the management and planning of programmatic or specialized accreditation is preferred. 
  • Strong project management skills 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies
  • Strong research, writing and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in handling sensitive situations 
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Access, Project, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams); experience using business intelligence reporting software, accreditation/assessment management systems and /or video capture software for the production of online training modules is desirable. 

 Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as other factors such as internal equity.
