Primary Objective: The Engineer – Assistant Chief shall work at the discretion of the Chief Engineer in providing efficient and professional engineering services for the maintenance of the building and grounds of City Colleges of Chicago.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible to the Board for the safe and economical operation of the plant.
- Maintains a working relationship with the Chief Engineer and assists in the orders given to the lower level employees.
- Responsible to the Board for carrying out management orders relating to the building operations.
- Ensures that all incidents involving the engineering or janitorial staff are properly reported to the Chief Engineer and establishes a clear assignment of organizational roles and responsibilities.
- Distributes work to employees.
- Ensures that all engineers are keeping an accurate log book.
- Adheres to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.
- Performs other related duties as assigned in accordance with the Union Contract.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direct Supervision: Engineering Staff
Indirect Supervision: None
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a high school diploma or the equivalent. Must possess a current Stationary Engineer’s license and must possess a current universal CFC license.
- Present membership in the plant engineering staff for the City Colleges of Chicago for a minimum period of twelve months.
- If not already proficient in the operation of the plant BAS, must agree to training on the system and becoming proficient in its operation within 90 days.
- If not already proficient in the operation of the plant equipment located at the site, must agree to training on the systems and becoming proficient in their operation within 90 days.
- Must be capable of running the plant in the Chief’s absence.
- Must be able to clearly communicate.
- Must have demonstrated knowledge and experience in the operation and repair of heating and ventilation equipment, steam plants, motors, combustion engines, pumps, air compressors, ice and refrigeration equipment, air conditioning units, fans automatic/power oiling pumps and engines.
- Additional knowledge and skills in others trades are preferred.
Salary Range: $62.08 Hourly Rate as Per Local 399 Bldg. Engineers
Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as other factors such as internal equity.
