ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Integrated Library System

  • Administers and supports the District wide variety of library systems and services. The Integrated Library System (ILS) is the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) I-Share, a catalog shared by ninety-four academic and research libraries in Illinois. The ILS is comprised of two products:
    • Primo VE: front-end discovery and delivery tool to allow students, faculty, and staff to efficiently locate library print, electronic, and streaming video resources
    • Alma: back-end library management service designed to consolidate, optimize, and extend the range of CCCs library services by managing patron records to allow on and off campus access
  • Administers and supports OpenAthens to allow seamless integration and appropriate restriction to valid CCC users of library resources with CCCs single sign-on authentication for on-campus use and remote access.
  • Monitors the ongoing operation of all modules of the ILS and integration with other library databases and CCC systems, troubleshooting problems, ensuring library standards and expectations are met, and that technical issues are resolved.
  • Serves as ILS administrator, monitoring the system to ensure optimal performance and integration with other internal and external systems.
  • Ensures library circulation and patron access policies and processes are in alignment with new ILS workflows.
  • Establishes policies and procedures for granting levels of access to ILS by librarians, students, and faculty.
  • Coordinates work efforts with OIT to ensure the effective implementation and integration of various applications, (e.g., PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, Brightspace) into the ILS.
  • Provides technical support and training to librarians and faculty, conducting workshops, webinars and other presentations on the capabilities and use of the ILS; provides individual training and support to librarians on specific issues or usage of the ILS and other library applications and systems.
  • Troubleshoots ILS system and hardware/software problems reported by library staff relating to ILS and other library systems and databases; follows up with vendor support staff and in-house OIT staff to resolve technical problems.
  • Develops working relationships with OIT staff at colleges to ensure adequate technical support for library hardware and software.
  • Communicates with OIT on districtwide issues impacting library systems and technology. Advocates on behalf of librarians and library staff on system enhancements and related issues.
  • Generates statistical, usage and collection reports using the ILS and other tools to provide analytics in support of decision making for library collections and services.
  • Maintains relationships with Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) and Network of Illinois Learning Resources in Community Colleges (NILRC) to broker price savings for electronic resources.
  • Works with vendors such as EBSCO, Gale/Cengage, ProQuest, and Springshare to ensure online access to research databases, resources, and essential services such as real-time chat, expanding student access to librarians beyond CCCs physical space and standard operating hours.

Additional Duties

  • Provides support and leadership to twelve full-time, approximately twenty-five adjunct faculty librarians, and staff at each of the seven college libraries.
