Truman College's Library is looking for a Part-Time College Library Assistant. Under general supervision, performs routine clerical duties relating to the operations of a college library.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

• Staffs the circulation desk, charging and discharging books and materials using the library’s automated circulation system.
• Provides excellent customer service to library patrons in-person and over the phone: answers questions, books study rooms, and triages reference inquiries to librarians.    
• Supports library patrons in the basic use of library technology such as printing, scanning, copying, and public computer access. 
• Conducts shelf maintenance and shelf reading using Library of Congress Classification system.  
• Prepares books and library materials for checkout including labeling, stamping, and preparing book jackets.
• Assists with interlibrary loan processes, including pulling books for holds, as well as sending and receiving items from other libraries.
• Uses the library system interface to update online item records as needed.
• Supports the library by compiling basic library statistics.
• Operates appropriate library equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be available to work at least one weeknight (Monday-Thursday) every week.
• Graduation from high school or the equivalent and one year of general clerical and keyboarding experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Knowledge of basic office procedures and some knowledge of library clerical procedures. Some knowledge of alphabetical and numeric filing systems.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and the ability to operate a personal computer and basic library equipment.
• Physical ability to perform manual tasks.
• Skill in basic filing and in operating simple office machines. Skill in applying routine clerical library procedures.
• Good verbal communication skills.
