Malcolm X College is the healthcare hub of City Colleges’ College to Career (C2C) initiative. The School of Health Sciences at Malcolm X provides a variety of allied health programs to students interested in completing two year associate degrees and/ or obtaining credentials in the health sciences that will lead to careers in the high growth healthcare industry.This Basic Nursing Assistant (B.N.A.) program is an eight to ten -week program. Basic principles and procedures of patient care are obtained through lecture and laboratory oncampus and supervised clinical experiences at an offsite healthcare facility. The program prepares students to give personal care to patients by helping them meet basic human needs. The nurse assistant works under the supervision of a registered nurse and/or licensed practical nurse.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: The Clinical Coordinator - BNA Program reports directly to the Associate Dean of Nursing, and performs program and administrative management duties in the selection of clinical sites, the scheduling of instructors and students; and the evaluation of clinical experiences for the students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Maintains links with clinical instructors, health care institutions, and other agencies involved 
    in the clinical phase of the program. 
  •  Assures the availability of remedial instruction for struggling students. 
  • Reviews syllabi and lesson plans, in conjunction with the faculty, and ensures all are 
    appropriately mapped to curriculum, and meet IDPH standards. 
  • Orients instructors to ensure student learning outcomes and expected educational 
    competencies are communicated to instructors and scheduled for students.
  • Monitors supervised clinical practice experiences to ensure instructors are fulfilling student 
    learning outcomes and recommends modifications as necessary to ensure student learning 
    outcomes are met by each student b program completion.
  • Works with clinical instructors to ensure documentation of student demonstration of defined 
    professional behaviors and that student assessments, evaluations, various documentations 
    and grades are properly obtained, completed, accurate and reported. 
  • Accountable for program’s compliance with the standards of accrediting body, Illinois 
    Department of Public Health, and the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB). 
    Disseminates state wide regulatory program changes and updates to the instructors. 
    Monitors and informs program managers of mandatory compliance issues and program 
    changes. Directs staff activities in preparing for ICCB program reviews. 
  • Establishes the clinical rotation schedule for the term and assigns clinical students using the 
    established network of clinical sites.
  • Assigns instructors to clinical sessions; selects the books for the term and helps select 
    student supplies.
  • Meets with representatives of potential clinical sites and develops new/additional sites for 
    the program.
  • Performs clinical site evaluations as part of the contract renewal process and writes 
    qualitative evaluations of the site. Updates and/or renews contracts as required. 
  • Defines and maintains consistent and effective processes for the initial and ongoing
    evaluation of all sites used for students’ clinical practice experiences, using comparable 
    evaluation processes for clinical sites regardless of geographic location.
  • Ensures and documents that each clinical site provides the student access to physical 
    facilities, patient populations and supervision necessary to fulfill the program’s expectation 
    of the clinical experience. 
  • Participates in the application review process, College and program Open House activities, 
    and new student orientation.
  • Submits all State test applications for program completers. Coordinates the development of 
    an electronic standardized Midterm and Final examination and proposes recommendations 
    for modifications. 

     

     

     

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Report to: Associate Dean, Nursing Program

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An Advanced certificate in practical nursing or an Associate’s degree in Nursing or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • A state of Illinois licensed practical nurse (LPN) or registered nurse (RN) with an unencumbered license.
  • Five years of work experience in clinical nursing.
  • Must be able to work varied hours which may include evenings and/or weekends.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of program accreditation standards and regulatory compliance.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to use critical thinking to guide decision-making.

Salary Range: $81,085 - $89,193.50

Reporting Location: Kennedy King College

 

Offered salary will be determined by the respective collective bargaining agreement and applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.
