ALTERNATIVE HIGH SCHOOL - STUDENT & FAMILY ADVISOR
OLIVE-HARVEY COLLEGE
This position provides basic student and parental support services by acting as a liaison between them and staff, and by providing basic academic and non-academic advisement/services which promote student retention and academic success.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identifies student's social service needs (personal, family, academic) by interacting with them, their family, and/or staff through face-to-face or telephone communication.
- Documents and provides summaries of interactions with students, their families, and/or staff through student records, other school documents, or data bases.
- Develops and coordinates instructional and/or extracurricular programs and activities for students, their families, and staff.
- Plans and implements activities that develop a student's leadership abilities.
- Communicates with other community organizations, agencies, etc., to identify services and make referrals for students and their families.
- Develops and coordinates parent involvement programs through workshops and meetings with the intent to increase a student's academic and personal success.
- Assists administrators and other staff by performing school operational duties as assigned.
- Adheres to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in counseling, social welfare, education, or a related field required.
- Three years experience performing the general duties and responsibilities of the position or in a counseling capacity. Demonstrated experience developing workshops/training sessions strongly preferred. Experience with at-risk students to discuss family/personal problems. Work experience in an academic setting highly desirable.
- Must be able to work well with employees at all levels of the organization, in addition to students and other customers. Must be able to handle all situations with tact, persuasiveness, and diplomacy.
- Excellent writing and verbal communication necessary. Must be able to write reports and present training workshops clearly and accurately. Ability to work with students from diverse communities through one-to-one and public speaking interactions. Bilingual skills preferred, but not necessary.
- Must be self-directed and innovative, able to assess current operations in an effort to improve the future goals of the school. Must be able to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
- Ability to operate computers and use software applications.
Salary Range : $61,006.- 67,106.06 annually
This position is represented by the 1600 Union
Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as other factors such as internal equity.
