ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR – POLITICAL SCIENCE

WILBUR WRIGHT COLLEGE

 

Wilbur Wright College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, seeks part-time faculty to teach political science courses. Adjunct faculty teach and evaluate students, prepare, and revise course syllabi and other educational materials. Part-time adjunct faculty will have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing and using effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverse needs and engage students in critical thinking and problem-solving. Part-time faculty contribute to the overall operation of the college, support the mission of the institution, and employ the philosophical commitment of the community college environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

 

·       Creates an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps students’ problem solve using discipline-specific thinking strategies. 

·       Designs courses that have clearly articulated learning outcomes that are student centered and promote students’ active participation in their own learning. 

·       Prepares syllabi that include student learning objectives and student learning outcomes.

·       Develops and designs an assessment program that includes regular and useful feedback to students in an objective, consistent, and timely manner; evaluates and documents student performance using established methods and criteria and records course grades promptly.

·       Commits to engaging and improving upon behavioral commitments that foster inclusivity and a sense of belonging amongst students.

·       Stays abreast of innovations and current trends in one’s specific academic discipline as they pertain to pedagogy and technology; continuously reflects on and refines craft.

·       Demonstrates excellence in teaching and a commitment to integrating new technologies in the learning process.

·       Fosters a safe environment that respects the diversity of individuals and ideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn. 

·       Employs a variety of teaching methods to meet students’ varying learning needs, abilities, and interests and to optimize student outcomes.

·       Teaches in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and guidelines of the college.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

·       Master’s Degree in Public Policy, Political Science, or Government.

·       Teaching experience at the college level preferred.

·       Excellent verbal and written skills required with the ability to communicate persuasively with tact and diplomacy.

·       The ability to work in a culturally diverse work environment.

·       Experience with a diverse, multi-lingual student population desired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the community college. 

·       Disposition towards developing the competencies outlined in the City Colleges Academic Excellence Pillars.

·       Knowledge of Brightspace or similar Learning Management System preferred. 

·       Prior experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or online teaching certification preferred.

·       Proficiency in Microsoft office applications.

·       Seeking candidate(s) with daytime availability (between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.) to teach face-to-face course(s) at Wright College main campus for the Fall 2025 semester.
