Qualified candidates must have at a minimum, a Master’s Degree in Japanese and three or more years teaching Japanese in a university or college environment. Experience should include time spent studying or living in a francophone country as well.
Qualified candidates would demonstrate an understanding of the needs of the World Language student in a community college environment and have significant experience working in a multicultural classroom.
Qualified candidates must possess demonstrated excellence in teaching, commitment to integrating new technologies in the learning process and the ability to inspire, motivate and empower students to succeed.
The ideal candidate will have experience in:
· Developing Curriculum and Materials
· Developing Integrated Skills Course Models
· Integrating LMS and Online Text Components in Language Learning
· Integrating Evolving Technologies in Language Learning
· Using a Variety of Teaching and Delivery Methods
· Teaching Language Through Content
· Speaking, Reading, Writing and Listening Instruction
· Teaching Critical Thinking and Comparative Culture
· Written and Oral Assessment
Essential Functions of the Position:
- Construction of a course syllabus consistent with Departmental and College Requirements.
- Development and preparation of lesson plans, course presentations, and instructional materials.
- Delivery of instruction with an emphasis on student centered activities and active learning.
- Consultation with and one on one tutoring of students.
- Maintenance of clear records on student performance, as well as any other factors, such as attendance, involved with the grading of students.
- Compliance with departmental and institutional policies and procedures including but not limited to; submission of midterm and final grades, keeping office hours, and decisions regarding instructional matters such as texts, assignments, and grading standards.
- Participation in department and/or institutional assessments of student learning.
The position is at Harold Washington College and may require day, evening and/or weekend working hours in person. To be considered for employment, your complete application packet must include:

Salary Range: Salary: $800.00 Per Contact Hour,
Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as other factors such as internal equity.
